Sleep Support for SEND Families
Better sleep can make a big difference to the whole family.
Sleep can be particularly challenging for children with additional needs.
Bedtime may feel like a battle. Your child might struggle to settle, wake frequently, wake very early, need a particular person or sensory input to fall asleep, or find changes to their routine difficult.
And when you’re exhausted yourself, knowing where to start can feel impossible.
That’s where Together’s sleep support can help.
A personalised approach to your child’s sleep
My sleep support is designed specifically around your child, your family and your individual circumstances.
Rather than giving you a generic sleep programme and expecting you to make it work, we look at what is happening around your child’s sleep and identify realistic, manageable steps that you can put into place.
We may explore:
-
Your child’s current sleep pattern
-
Bedtime and morning routines
-
Comfort items and sleep associations
-
Sensory needs
-
Regulation and emotional needs
-
Timing of naps and bedtime
-
Night waking
-
Early waking
-
Settling and falling asleep
-
Changes to routines
-
What is realistic for your family
How it works
1. Get in touch
Tell me a little about your child’s sleep and what’s currently difficult.
2. Complete a sleep diary
You’ll be asked to keep a 7-day sleep diary so we can build a clearer picture of your child’s current sleep.
3. We look at the bigger picture
We’ll use the information you’ve provided to understand your child’s sleep patterns, routines and individual needs.
4. Create a personalised plan
We’ll identify practical strategies and small changes that are realistic for your family.
5. Ongoing support
You won’t simply be handed a plan and left to work it out alone. We’ll review how things are going and make adjustments where needed.
SEND-informed and child-centred
I understand that sleep doesn’t happen in isolation.
Sensory needs, communication differences, anxiety, routines, regulation and a child’s individual preferences can all play a part in how they sleep.
My approach is supportive, practical and non-judgemental.
There is no expectation that your family has to follow a rigid approach that doesn’t feel right for you.
You don’t need to be at breaking point to ask for help.
Perhaps bedtime is taking hours.
Perhaps your child is waking multiple times a night.
Perhaps you’re ready to make a change but don’t know where to begin.
Or perhaps you’re simply wondering whether your child’s sleep could be improved.
You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
Ready to talk about sleep?
If you’d like to find out more about sleep support, get in touch and tell me a little about what’s happening at bedtime and overnight.
Together, we can look at what support might be right for your family.
Please note: Sleep support provides practical, child-centred sleep guidance and is not a medical service. Where there are concerns about an underlying medical issue, medication or a significant change in sleep, appropriate healthcare professionals should be consulted.
